What is this obsession with Tubing?
- Almost everybody who has met me knows that during the
Summer, each weekend that the weather is nice, I can be
found at the river in an Inner Tube. Tubing is the
perfect way to relax after a week at the office, tubing
is the participation sport for the lazy or non-athletic.
If you can float on a tube and are not allergic to the
sun, you can tube. It's cheap, fun, easy and a great way
to "get away from it all!".
- I have been tubing since 1981 when a group of friends
invited me to go with them. I do not know about the rest
of the group but it was a life changing event for me. I
have made friendships based (in the beginning anyway) on
nothing more than we both liked to go tubing. Since that
time, except for the Summer of 1985, I have been tubing
every Summer. Some years more that others. I would
estimate, leaving out the year 1985 that the least amount
of time that I went tubing in a year was 10 with the
number approaching 30 in good years. I been tubing on
Easter weekend twice, in 1995 & 1996. It was cold as
crap and if the truck that delivered us had of hung
around until I found out how cold the water was in 1985 I
probably would not have gone either time. But once the
trip was under way we all had a good time. We bitched
about how cold it was but we were all just trying to make
each other laugh, at least I was. Once the trip ended and
we were in the car on the way home we were saying stuff
like "you know, it really wasn't that cold."
and "I might just be up for going again next
weekend". It is really hard to have a bad time
tubing.
- When I go tubing, I take along my mini-grill and all the
items needed for that, Salad and Dressing, a Sony Water
Resistant Boombox with cassette and CD player and my Dog,
"Shithead". Yes! That really is her name. I
have a Sony HandyCam that I purchased just because Sony
makes a Water Proof case for it's line of Handy Cams. I
got one and I have made about eight 1-2 hour videos of
tubing trips. All of the pictures on my Tubing Pictures
pages were captured by a Video Snappy from my video
camera.
